The History Department at Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE) along with the Institute for Philological Research of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), the School of Government and Social Sciences of the Instituto Tecnólogico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey Mexico City Campus (ITESM) the Research Unit on Cultural and Social Representations of UNAM Morelia, the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Sur (UABCS), the José Helú Chair for Arabic Language and Cultures of the Center for Asian and African Studies at El Colegio de México (COLMEX), the Museo Nacional de las Culturas del Mundo (MNCM), and the Festival de Cine Libanés call for submissions for their annual Conference "Diversities of the Arab and Islamic World".
The Conference will be held within the framework of the Sixteenth Middle East and North Africa Week (SEMONA) in Mexico, from November 10 to 14th, 2025 at the Institute for Philological Research of UNAM. We will host a hybrid event; presenters can participate on-site or remotely.
The conference seeks to bring together students and scholars working on Middle East and North African studies to present and discuss ongoing research. Submissions from any disciplinary (social sciences, arts and humanities) or interdisciplinary perspective are encouraged. They should include arguments, methodology and sources. The thematic axes of this edition are listed below, but submissions not aligned with the axes are also welcome.

Resistance and social protests
Those interested in participating may submit abstracts for individual papers or thematic roundtables (maximum of 5 members, including the moderator). All proposals must be registered through the colloquium website: https://bit.ly/4374Wdj. The deadline for submitting proposals is Saturday, August 9 at 11:59 PM.
The results and preliminary program will be published on Friday, September 5, 2025, on the colloquium website.
Once the proposals have been accepted, it will be necessary to register and confirm your attendance at semona.mexico@gmail.com. Unfortunately we do not have funds to cover expenses related to accommodation or transportation for participants.
